Previously I have blogged about my research project ‘Is Orientation Week only beneficial for first year students?’. Since writing the blog post I have produced an online survey for fellow BCM212 students, as well as submitting Assessment 2 of this research project.
My online survey was created on Survey Monkey, consisting of 10 questions. The survey consists of simple questions mostly consisting of ‘yes/no’ or short answer questions.
I have included an introductory statement highlighting the ethical considerations within the survey and the location of where the participant can find the data they have submitted e.g. my personal blog https://aprilverjoustinsky.wordpress.com/.
As the week’s progress I hope to receive enough survey submissions to gather a better understanding of my research topic and sustain enough data to produce a clear research summary for Assessment 3.
Submission of Assessment 2 induced ideas for research questions to ask fellow students which are to do with my chosen topic. I also gathered knowledge on the ethical considerations to do with the project which will assist the success of my surveys. Filling in the template for assessment 2 sanctions me to consider researching in an ethical manner.
My progression in the research task has instigated challenges when conducting appropriate survey questions. Whilst fabricating the survey I found it difficult to accumulate 10 questions that did not all relate to each other too much. Therefore, I used a range of answer options for the questions I asked e.g. star ratings, multiple choice, and short answer.
I also did not want the survey to take up too much of my participant’s time so I found myself filling out the survey countless times to instigate the expected time it would take to fill out.
I will promote the survey’s on Twitter and also let friends/family who can relate to the content know about the survey. Alongside promoting the survey on social media, during tutorial classes I will encourage fellow classmates to fill it out.
